Galajda Named B1G Third Star Of The Week

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Graduate student Matthew Galajda has been named Big Ten Hockey’s Third Star of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning (Nov. 16).

Galajda helped the Irish to a weekend sweep of Wisconsin as Notre Dame posted a 5-1 game one win (Nov. 12) and a 3-0 win in game two (Nov. 13). The Aurora, Ontario native stopped 46 of the 47 shots he faced in the series, with the Badgers’ lone goal coming on their first shot of the series and while they were skating on the power play. To go along with his 2-0-0 record, Galajda posted a 0.50 goals-against average and a .979 save percentage. He is now 7-1-0 on the season with a 1.38 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage.

Galajda’s 22-save shutout on Saturday night was his second of the season and the 21st of his career to tie for third all-time in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey history with Michael Bitzer (Bemidji State 2014-18). He also has 67 career wins, which is tied for 23rd all-time in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey history.
