Fans of the Notre Dame women’s soccer team can see the Irish squad profiled on an upcoming Fox Soccer Channel feature, set to air on the the weekly show “Fox Soccer USA.” The first airing will be Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7:00 p.m. EST (in South Bend, which currently is equivalent to Chicago time) while re-air times include (all EST): Oct. 26 (3:30 p.m.), Oct. 28 (5:00 p.m.) and Oct. 29 (11:30 p.m.).
A Fox Soccer crew was on campus recently to film the spot, which features a behind-the-scenes look at life as a Notre Dame women’s soccer student-athlete. Fox Soccer Channel is available on DirectTV channel 613 and via other cable outlets (check your local listings to confirm availability and air times).
Interviews and footage that were used to create the five-minute piece include: a visit with the team’s three Chicago-area veterans (juniors Jen Buczkowski, Jill Krivacek and Kim Lorenzen); a “hands-on” look at senior goalkeeper and Academic All-American Erika Bohn in “action” at the ceramics lab; a similar behind-the-scenes look at junior defender Christie Shaner as she works in the computer design lab at Riley Hall; an outdoor interview near the center of campus with sophomore Ashley Jones, one of several warm-weather natives on the team and one of three Irish players who posted a 4.0 semester GPA in ’04-’05; a visit with head coach Randy Waldrum in his office; a stop by the North Dining Hall to catch up with team members as they take a break for lunch; practice footage from the ND soccer practice fields; and game footage from parts of the ’04 and ’05 seasons.
Here is additional information on the Fox Soccer USA program, as posted on the Fox Soccer Channel website at http://msn.foxsports.com/fsw:
“Fox Soccer USA is an off-the-field, in-the-goal and on-the-road 30-minute weekly show that throws pop culture and soccer into the blender and comes out with a mix for kids and young adults.
“From the game itself to its fashion, music and the newest techno must-haves, Fox Soccer USA profiles trends in the emerging soccer nation to engage viewers in everything they need to know about the beautiful game.
“Viewers can get involved as they send us their favorite soccer videos and we’ll see who’s got the best soccer mom video of the week. We’ll answer viewer questions and maybe even find new talent to join our team.
“The show is anchored each week with two in-depth profiles – the Main Attractions – that feature athletes, coaches and mentors and concentrate on the off-the-pitch, human interest side of soccer.
“Fox Soccer USA also is supported by a series of shorts that expose the psyche of America’s youth culture – what movies they’re watching, what tunes they’re listening to, who’s blogging, the magazines, the fast food low-down, who’s hot, who’s not, the skinny and a whole lot more!
“Make sure you join hosts Brandon Johnson and Lisa Mollick Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. EDT (times may vary, based on live game programming).
