Former Irish Star Lindsay Treadwell Named Notre Dame Assistant Volleyball Coach

Feb. 1, 2000

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Former Irish standout Lindsay Treadwell has been named an assistant volleyball coach at the University of Notre Dame, head coach Debbie Brown announced today. Treadwell, who replaces another former Irish player Jessica Fiebelkorn-Kerr, will help with recruiting, team practices and travel, in addition to other administrative duties.

“Jessica is going to be hard to replace, but I feel like both she and Lindsay bring similar things to our program,” Brown said. “Lindsay’s an intense competitor, she’s familiar with our program and has excellent leadership skills.”

Treadwell, 22, was a four-year monogram winner with the Irish from 1995-98, and spent the last few months working at Velocity Sports and Entertainment in Westport, Conn., after graduating from Notre Dame in 1999 with a degree in American studies.

A native of Austin, Texas, Treadwell was one of the most versatile and consistent players in Irish volleyball history. She appears in the Notre Dame career record books in 11 categories and played in all but one of the team’s 133 matches during her four-year career.

“Lindsay’s very passionate about the sport of volleyball, our program and Notre Dame,” Brown says. “Being a student-athlete here will help Lindsay and the players because she knows what it takes.”

As a senior in 1998, Treadwell captained the team to its seventh consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and a fourth straight BIG EAST championship, earning first team all-district and all-BIG EAST honors. She also was named a first team GTE/CoSIDA academic all-district honoree and received team honors as the National Monogram MVP and Knute Rockne Scholar-Athlete.

Off the court, Treadwell earned the 1999 Christopher Zorich Award, which recognizes contribution to the University community and the community at-large, and was one of 10 Notre Dame students to receive the Student Leadership Award from the Office of Student Activities.

“If I were to ever pick a dream place to start my coaching career, this would be it,” Treadwell said. “It’s a great chance for me to work with two coaches that I respect in Debbie and Steve (Hendricks), plus I’m already familiar with the program.”

Treadwell was the ninth grade volleyball coach at Niles High School in nearby Niles, Mich., in 1999, and also has helped coach at a number of Notre Dame volleyball camps and clinics and with her former club team, the Austin Juniors.
