NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Six former University of Notre Dame baseball student-athletes open the 2018 season on Major League Baseball rosters.
The group includes four pitchers in John Axford (Blue Jays), Jeff Manship (Cincinnati Reds), David Phelps (Seattle Mariners) and Jeff Samardzija (San Francisco Giants). Trey Mancini (Baltimore Orioles) and A.J. Pollock (Arizona Diamondbacks) round out Notre Dame’s alumni base currently in the big leagues.
Nine former Irish will begin the regular season in the minor leagues.
