Aug. 17, 2015 NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the second consecutive year, Fighting Irish Media has enhanced its growing reputation as one of the premier college media production outlets in the nation, receiving five Telly Awards – its first-ever Silver Telly and four Bronze Tellys – for excellence in several online video and film productions during the 2014-15 academic year.
FIM also collected three Bronze Tellys last year, its first national video awards since the University’s athletics media production group took flight. The full rundown of this year’s Fighting Irish Media Telly Award productions can be found at the end of this release.
The Telly Awards debuted in 1979 and are the premier awards honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world. This year’s honorees emerged from nearly 12,000 entries in all 50 states, as well as numerous countries.
“The entire Fighting Irish Media team has come together in pursuit of the singular goal to tell Notre Dame’s story through athletics,” said Dan Skendzel, Notre Dame senior associate athletics director for digital media and branding. “The work ethic and commitment from our team has been so strong, making these Telly Awards, and our first Silver Telly, all the more gratifying.”
“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards. “Fighting Irish Media’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”
A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10 percent of entries earn the Silver Telly, the competition’s highest honor, while approximately 25 percent of entries receive the Bronze Telly.
The Telly Awards also joined forces with YouTube to give the public the power to view and rate videos submitted as part of the People’s Telly Awards. In addition to recognition from the Silver Telly Council, the judging panel that selects the Telly Awards winners, the Internet community helps decide the People’s Telly Awards winners.
