Fighting Irish Fan Chat - March 2

March 1, 2011

UND.com is debuting another of its new interactive features for the 2010-11 season, with its weekly Fighting Irish Fan Chats. UND.com will sit down for a live chat session with student-athletes, coaches and administrators making news in the world of Fighting Irish athletics. Fans are invited to join in and offer questions or comments for our guests, and if you can’t join us live, each chat will be archived so you can return to UND.com at your convenience and read what your favorite Notre Dame athletic personalities have to say on a variety of topics.

Wednesday’s Fighting Irish Fan Chat will see Notre Dame senior baseball pitcher Cole Johnson (Hudson, Ohio) and senior softball third baseman Heather Johnson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) facing off with you the fans in a live interactive chat. Cole Johnson will toe the rubber to open Wednesday’s chat at 1:30 p.m. (ET), before Heather Johnson digs into the box at 2 p.m. (ET) to take her cuts at your probing questions.

Cole Johnson is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound righthander who has been one of Notre Dame’s frontline starters for the better part of the past two seasons. This year, he is 1-1 with a 2.03 earned run average (ERA) in two starts, working 13.1 innings and allowing three runs (all earned) on 12 hits, while striking out nine and walking just three. The veteran hurler has helped Notre Dame to a 3-3 start this season, including a solid 2-1 effort at the season-opening BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge.

Heather Johnson has started every game of her Fighting Irish career, a run of 195 games and counting, interrupted only in 2008 when she missed all but the first 11 games of that campaign with an injury. A corner infielder who now is firmly entrenched as Notre Dame’s everyday third baseman, she earned second-team all-BIG EAST honors last year. This season, she is batting .269 through the first nine games, rapping out seven hits and driving in eight runs, the latter being second on the team, helping the Fighting Irish to the best start in school history (9-0).
