NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Eleven Notre Dame Swim & Dive student-athletes earned selection to the 2020-21 All-ACC Academic team, as announced by the conference Wednesday. Seven are multi-year honorees, while four note their first-career selection.
The 11 selections tie for fourth in the conference. The honorees were chosen based on grade point average (GPA) combined with athletic achievement in the 2020-21 season, including being selected as All-American, All-ACC, ACC Swimmer or Diver of the Week or competing in an A final at the 2021 ACC Championships.
From the women’s swim team, sophomore Coleen Gillilan and juniors Madeline LaPorte, Bayley Stewart and Luciana Thomas were selected, with Gillilan, Stewart and Thomas earning their second-career honors, and LaPorte making the list for the first time. On the diving end, senior Kelly Straub and junior Annie Wiese both notched their second All-ACC academic team selections.
For the men, junior Josh Bottelberghe, sophomore Alec DeLong, senior Sadler McKeen, freshman Liam Smith and sophomore Cason Wilburn were honored, with DeLong, Smith and Wilburn being named to the list for the first time in their careers. Smith was the only Irish freshman who achieved selection to the group this season. Bottelberghe and McKeen each posted their second-career selections.
