Dyer Logs Top-10 Finish On Day Two Of U.S. Open

IRVINE, Calif. – University of Notre Dame men’s swimmer Frank Dyer earned a top-10 result Tuesday to lead all Irish Aquatics swimmers competing on day two of the 2013 United States Open at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.

Dyer, swimming in the men’s 400-meter freestyle, was seeded sixth for the preliminary heat. He tapped in at 3:54.50 for a fifth-place prelim finish and entry into the evening’s A final. Dyer’s final heat of 3:56.43 gave him solo eighth place for the event.

Competing in the 200-meter breaststroke, Zach Stephens claimed a finals appearance after a 2:16.76 preliminary heat placed him 22nd overall. Stephens shaved nearly one full second off his C final time (2:15.71) to touch the wall in 19th place.

Cameron Miller posted the next highest Irish finish on the day, clocking a 200-meter breast effort of 2:19.12, good enough for 42nd place. John Williamson (4:04.86, 66th) and Brennan Jacobsen (4:07.56, 72nd) competed with Dyer in the 400-meter free, while Matt Buerger (2:11.75, 88th) raced in the 200-meter backstroke.
