Oct. 27, 2009

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame men’s soccer players Bilal Duckett (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) and Michael Thomas (Olathe, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) have received conference and national accolades, respectively, for their parts in helping the Fighting Irish to two BIG EAST victories last week.

Duckett was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, while Thomas was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week.

Duckett, a junior right back, netted the golden goal in the 97th minute in a 2-1 win at Georgetown on Oct. 21. That was the first career goal for the Georgia native. Duckett and the Irish defense then posted a 1-0 shutout at Pittsburgh on Oct. 24. The Fighting Irish only allowed one shot on goal against the Panthers. Duckett played all 187 minutes on the pitch over the course of both matches.

Thomas, a senior midfielder, gave Notre Dame a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute in the victory over Georgetown. The team captain then assisted on the lone tally, a goal from Michael Rose in the 48th minute, in the triumph of Pittsburgh. Thomas has a team-high five assists to go along with five goals, which ranks second among all Irish players, this season.

The Fighting Irish (9-6-1, 7-3-0 BIG EAST) are back in action with a non-conference tilt at Michigan State on Wednesday. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m. (ET) at Old College Field.
