Crysti Foote Named BIG EAST Player Of The Week For Third Time This Season

April 3, 2006

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame senior women’s lacrosse standout, Crysti Foote (Suffern, N.Y.) has been selected as the BIG EAST offensive player of the week for the third time this season after scoring nine points (5 goals, 4 assists) in No. 10 Notre Dame’s 13-9 BIG EAST win at Connecticut on March 31. Her four assists were a career high for Foote who leads the Irish in scoring with 41 goals and 20 assists for 61 points in 10 games.

The senior marketing major not only got the job done against Connecticut in the scoring department, she also set a personal-best with six draw controls in the game and equaled a personal best with six ground balls in the victory at Storrs, Conn. Foote was also named the BIG EAST offensive player of the week on Feb. 27 and March 6 and followed that by being selected to the league’s honor roll on March 13 and 20th.

Foote’s nine-point game against the Huskies was her second of the season with nine or more points. She scored nine goals and added two assists for a career-high 11-point game on February 25 at California.

Besides leading the Irish in goals, assists and points, Foote leads the team with 27 draw controls, is fifth in ground balls (16) and is tied for fourth with 10 caused turnovers.

Nationally, Foote starts the week ranked second in the nation in total points (61) as she trails Denver’s Kristie Leggio who has 65 points (44g, 21a) in 11 games. Her 6.10 points-per-game ranks her second in that category to Johns Hopkins’ Mary Key who is averaging 6.63 points-per-game this year.

In the goal-scoring department, Foote is second overall to Leggio (45-41), but leads the nation in goals per game with 4.10.

Foote has also taken aim at several Notre Dame scoring marks. She is second all-time in goals (128), needing just three more to pass Danielle Shearer `03 (130). Her 184 career points rank her third all-time, six behind Lael O’Shaughnessy `01 (190) and 12 behind Shearer (196). Her 56 career assists rank her fourth in that department.

Her 41 goals are the third most by a Notre Dame player in a season, behind Meredith Simon `04, who had 46 in 2004 and O’Shaughnessy, who holds the single-season mark with 50 in 1999. Foote’s 61 points this season tie her for the third most in a season. Simon set the school mark in 2004 with 74, O’Shaughnessy had 69 in 1999 and Shearer had 61 in 2003.

Coyne and her teammates continue a streak of five straight road games this week when the Irish travel to Columbus, Ohio on Wed., April 5 to face Ohio State (1-8) in a 4:00 p.m. game. On Sunday, April 9, Notre Dame faces a tough test when the Irish visit Durham, N.C., to face the fourth-ranked Duke Blue Devils (9-1) in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
