Coan Named a Top 25 Candidate for Johnny Unitas Award

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame graduate student quarterback Jack Coan has been named a Top 25 candidate for the 2021 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Coan has started all four games for the Irish this season and has led Notre Dame to a 4-0 record and a Top-10 ranking heading into this weekend’s matchup with No. 7 Cincinnati. He is 77-for-128 for 986 yards and nine touchdowns on the season. The nine touchdowns rank 16th in the country, while his 986 passing yards are rank 31st in the nation.

Coan had a career-high 366 yards against Florida State, which broke the Notre Dame record for most passing yards in a season opener. He also had four touchdown passes against the Seminoles, which tied the Notre Dame record for a season opener. Following his performance against the Seminoles, Coan was named to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 list and a Manning Star of the Week.

A native of Sayville, New York, Coan had two touchdown passes against Toledo and Purdue, marking the first time in his career he had three-straight games with two or more passing touchdowns.
