Citron Named a WBCA All-American

Continues to stockpile high school honors

ATLANTA – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced its 2021 WBCA High School All-America team on Wednesday, as incoming Notre Dame freshman Sonia Citron was one of just 10 student-athletes recognized. Citron, a 6-1 guard out of Ursuline School, continues to stockpile honors as her prep career comes to a close.

“We congratulate the 10 members of the 2021 WBCA High School Coaches’ All-America team for what they have accomplished in this challenging season,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. “These young women have worked to elevate their teams and themselves to an elite level of competition. Through their exceptional talents on the basketball court, they have also lifted the women’s game.”

This was not Citron’s first All-America recognition this year, as she was previously dubbed a 2021 McDonald’s All-American (24th Irish player to be named one) and a 2021 MaxPreps 2nd Team All-American as well.

Citron was also named Section I Miss Basketball in New York after averaging 26.5 ppg, 11.2 rpg and 5.0 apg during her senior year. The New York native had quite the proper sendoff, ending her prep career with 38 consecutive victories at Ursuline, capped by a Southern Westchester Group 1 championship.

The year prior, when Citron was named the 2020 New York State Gatorade Player of the Year, she led the Koalas to their first Section 1 title since 2003.

Citron will be participating in the USA U19 trials May 14-16 before linking up with the Fighting Irish for summer classes and training in June.
