Notre Dame, Ind. – Senior guard Chris Thomas (Indianapolis, Ind.) was named to the 2004-05 All-BIG EAST Third Team, which was announced today by the league and determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches. It marks the fourth straight year that Thomas has earned all-conference honors. He was a third-team honoree in 2002 and a second-team selection in 2003 and 2004.
The two-time Irish captain joined Sherman Douglas (Syracuse) and Gary Payton (Oregon) recently as the only three players in NCAA history with 2,000 points and 800 assists. He is one of only three players in BIG EAST history to record more than 400 assists — his 413 assists ranks second all-time. He also finished with 1,099 career points in league play in 64 career outings.
Thomas leads the Irish in scoring averaging 13.9 points overall and 13.6 mark in league play. He also is averaging 4.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists. Among BIG EAST distinctions, Thomas ranks third all-time in Notre Dame career scoring with 2,157 points, and is the career assist (819) and steals leader (240).
