ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Sophomore Kali Krisik, sophomore Cosmina Ciobanu and junior Katie Potts all advanced into the quarterfinals of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the Varsity Tennis Center on Sunday. Junior Brook Buck and sophomore Kelcy Tefft also advanced into the doubles’ final.
#9 and top-seeded Buck (Yukon, OK) and Tefft (Enid, OK) knocked off sixth-seeded Nazlie Ghazal and Keri Robison of Northwestern, 8-6, before edging Alexis Conill and Maria Mosolova of Northwestern, 9-7, to earn a spot in the finals. With the pair of wins, Buck and Tefft are now 6-1 on the season and 65-15 for their career. They will face Lauren Lui and Georgia Rose of Northwestern in the final. Lui and Rose narrowly escaped 14th-seeded Kali Krisik (Arkansas City, KS) and Colleen Rielley (Overland Park, KS), 9-8 (5). Krisik and Rielley reached the semifinals with an 8-5 triumph over Suzie Matzenauer and Samantha Murray of Northwestern, 8-5.
Krisik moved into the quarterfinals with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 straight-set victory over ninth-seeded and 93rd-ranked Dunja Antunovic of DePaul. Krisik improves to 9-1 on the year and 25-6 for her career. She will face top-seed and eighth-ranked Georgia Rose of Northwestern in the quarterfinals. Rose upended #125 and 14th-seed Tefft, 6-3, 6-2, in the round of 16.
#45 and third-seeded Ciobanu (Brea, CA) disposed of Angela DiPastina of Ohio State in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Ciobanu is now 6-1 on the season and 42-6 for her career. She will play Kerstin Pahl of Western Michigan for a berth into the semifinals.
Potts (Brookfield, WI) recorded her third consecutive straight-set victory. Potts defeated Brooke Beier of Purdue, 6-4, 7-5. Potts improves to 7-0 on the year and 52-14 for her career. She will play #35 and second-seeded Samantha Murray of Northwestern. Murray upended #91 and 11th-seeded Buck, 6-3, 7-6 (5), in the round of 16.
