Brian Hubschmann Named GWLL Player Of The Week

March 21, 2007

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame senior attackman Brian Hubschmann (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) has been named the Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) Player of the Week for March 12-18. He notched four goals and one assist in a 16-5 win over Drexel on March 13 and followed that up with a three-goal and one-assist effort in a 7-6 setback at Dartmouth on March 17.

Hubschmann, a preseason honorable mention All-America selection by Inside Lacrosse along with being named to the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List, has a team-high 16 goals in addition to three assists. He had scored a goal in 11 straight games up until yesterday’s contest against Bellarmine, an 11-3 Notre Dame win.

This marks the first ever GWLL Player of the Week honor for the senior co-captain. Hubschmann was a first-team all-GWLL selection in 2006 and a second-team member in 2004. He was the team’s co-leading scorer last season with 50 points on a team-high 31 goals and 19 assists.

Hubschmann is the second Fighting Irish player to earn all-conference accolades this season. Junior goaltender Joey Kemp (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Prep) was named the GWLL Player of the Week on Feb. 18.

The 19th-ranked Fighting Irish will carry a 4-3 record into a showdown at Brown on Saturday, March 31.
