NEW YORK (AP) – Notre Dame’s Brady Quinn was selected as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy on Wednesday, along with Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith and Arkansas running back Darren McFadden.
The most prolific passer in Notre Dame history, Quinn owns 36 school records and has helped guide the Irish to 29 wins in his 45 starts, tied for best in school history with Tom Clements and Ron Powlus.
Quinn has led Notre Dame to a 10-2 record this year by completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,278 yards with 35 touchdowns and just five interceptions.
A four-year starter and two-year captain, Quinn is set to graduate this December, completing his undergraduate work in 3.5 years, with dual degrees in political science and finance.
He is also a finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, Maxwell Award (top all-around player) and Davey O’Brien Award (top quarterback).
Quinn, who was fourth in Heisman voting last season, could become the eighth player from Notre Dame to win the award and would break a tie with USC as the school with the most. Tim Brown was the last Fighting Irish player, taking home the trophy in 1987.
