Beaudreau Tied For 10th At ACC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. Sophomore Lauren Beaudreau shot a pair of even-par 72’s to lead the Irish on the opening day of the 2021 ACC Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club (Par 72/6,089 yards).

The Fighting Irish shot an opening round 313 and followed with a 304 in the afternoon and are in 11th heading into Friday’s third round. 

Beaudreau, who hails from Lemont, Illinois, had five birdies, eight pars and five bogeys in the first round and she played the back nine at a one-under par clip (36). In the second round, she birdied the 15th and 18th holes as she played the final four holes two-under to get back to even par. She has now carded a team-best six even or under-par rounds this season. 

Senior Abby Heck shot a 75 for Notre Dame’s second best round of the morning. She had a consistent round that included 16 pars to go along with a bogey and a double. Heck followed with an 80 in the afternoon and is tied for 41st.

Freshman Julia Bordeaux and junior Claire Albrecht shot 83’s to also score for the Irish in the opening round. Bordeaux took 10 strokes off her first round total to card a second round 73, which marked Notre Dame’s third-lowest round of the day and her best round of the season. Albrecht had an afternoon 79 to also score. 

Madelyn Jones carded an 87 and an 83. 

Wake Forest (288-277=565) leads the 12-team field, with Duke (286-281=567) trailing by two strokes. This season, stroke play will end after the third round, with the top individual earning medalist honors. The top four teams will then advance to match play on Saturday (semifinals) and Sunday (finals). 

On the individual leaderboard, Duke’s Gina Kim (-7) leads the field, followed by Florida State’s Beatrice Wallin (-6). Beaudreau is in a six-way tie for 10th but just two strokes behind fifth place. 

Friday’s tee times begin at 9 a.m. ET with Notre Dame slated to go off on No. 10 with Boston College and North Carolina State.

Irish At The ACC Championship

  • Senior Abby Heck leads the way for the Irish with ACC Tournament experience, having played the event in 2018 (Sedgefield) and 2019 (Sedgefield).
  • In 2018, Heck tied for 50th (78-78-77=233) and then in 2019 she tied for 26th (76-71-78=225).
  • Claire Albrecht also played in the 2018 ACC Championship, placing 60th (84-88-80=252).
  • In 2019, the Irish finished 11th (303-307-303=913). 
  • Notre Dame’s best finish at the ACC Championship came in 2014 at Sedgefield when the Irish tied for fifth (306-303-296=905).
  • The 2021 tournament will be Notre Dame’s seventh appearance in the ACC Championship.
