Bean Named to USA Baseball 2018 Collegiate National Team Staff

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — USA Baseball announced the 2018 Collegiate National Team coaching staff on Tuesday, and University of Notre Dame athletic trainer Mike Bean has been named to the support staff.

Bean, who has worked full-time at Notre Dame since 1991, will serve on the staff of manager and former Notre Dame head coach Paul Mainieri. A native of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, Bean has been working with the Irish football team since 1996 and was a member of Mainieri’s support staff during his stint at Notre Dame.

Former Irish assistant coaches Brian O’Connor and Cliff Godwin also were selected to be assistant coaches on the team.

The 2018 Collegiate National Team will train at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, and compete against teams in the Coastal Plain League from June 26-27, before hosting the 18th USA vs. Chinese Taipei International Friendship Series from June 28-July 2. All seven of the games will be streamed live on USABaseball.com and Facebook Live.

The team will then host the 42nd USA versus Japan Collegiate All-Star Series from July 3-9. Finally, Team USA will travel to Cuba for the 7th Annual USA versus Cuba International Friendship Series that will take place July 13-18.

Megan Golden, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since August of 2016. In her role, she coordinates all media efforts for the Notre Dame baseball and women’s soccer programs.
