April 21, 2018

Box Score

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Boston College capitalized on three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to even its Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) series with the University of Notre Dame softball team on Saturday. The Eagles held on for a 6-4 win over the Irish in game two of a conference slate at Brighton Field at Harrington Athletics Village.

How It Happened

Notre Dame (29-17, 12-7 ACC) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning off the bat of MK Bonamy. Bonamy clubbed a solo home run deep and gone to left, her second of the season, to push the Irish in front.

After Boston College (24-18, 10-6 ACC) took a 3-1 advantage after three innings, Notre Dame tied the game in the top of the fourth. Bonamy ripped a single up the middle, ultimately scoring on an Eagle throwing error while on the bases to bring the score to 3-2. Ali Wester ripped an RBI single through the right side to plate Alexis Bazos and equal the game at 3-3.

Boston College surged forward once more with three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead. Cait Brooks (1-1) and the Notre Dame defense held the Eagles at bay over the final two innings.

Notre Dame attempted the rally all the way back in the top of the seventh inning. After back-to-back fielder’s choices put a runner on with two outs, Madison Heide was hit by a pitch and Bazos walked to load the bags for Abby Sweet. Sweet was hit herself for the third time on the day, earning the RBI and scoring Heide to trim the deficit to 6-4. Wester chipped a tricky bouncer to third with the bases still loaded, but Boston College made the force out at third base to close the win.
