BRING BACK THE BASH – The Notre Dame baseball team (28-18-1, 10-7-1 BIG EAST) next heads up to the Grand Rapids area for the annual Baseball Bash showdown with Michigan, at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark … this marks the 10th time in the past 11 seasons that ND and UM have played in the home of the single-A West Michigan Whitecaps (formerly known as Old Kent Park) … the Irish will send sophomore RHP Derik Olvey to the mound while Michigan is expected to counter with sophomore Brad Seddon … the game will be telecast live throughout Michigan by Comcast Local (also live in South Bend, on Comcast Cable channel 3) … Paul Mainieri, in his 11th season at ND and 23rd overall as a college head coach, heads into the game with an 810-469-3 career record that includes 479-190-2 with the Irish … he recently became the 27th active Div. 1 coach with 800-plus career wins as a college head baseball coach … in addition to the many noteworthy accomplishments on the field by Mainieri’s players, the Irish baseball program also owns a 100% graduation rate during the Mainieri era (59-of-58, among 4-year players, with 11 others who signed professionally as juniors having returned to complete or near completion of their degree requirements).
