Senior Greg Andrews

Andrews Selected To Play At National Indoor Championships

Oct. 31, 2013

Notre Dame, Ind. — Two weeks ago, senior Greg Andrews found himself within points of two championships-he played in both the singles and doubles finals at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Both matches came down to a tiebreaker, and in both matches, Andrew went home empty handed.

As head coach Ryan Sachire explained after the meet, the results were disappointing, but Andrews’ performance at the championships proved his elite status within the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

That status has been further cemented this week as Andrews has been selected to participate in the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 7-10.

“We are extremely excited for Greg to have earned a bid to National Indoors,” says Sachire. “His performance throughout this fall season, as well as the elite career that he has had while at Notre Dame, has established Greg as one of the premier players in the country. Next week’s event in New York City will provide him with yet another opportunity to play against the best in college tennis.”

Andrews is among 32 players in the nation to participate in this tournament. As Sachire says, the Indoor Championships will provide him the opportunity to gain experience against some of the best players in the country. Be sure to check in at UND.com and on Facebook and Twitter to follow Andrews’ results next week.
