Anders Lee Selected CCHA Postgame Offensive Player Of The Week

Nov. 27, 2012

Notre Dame, Ind. – November 27, 2012 For the second time in the month of November, University of Notre Dame junior center Anders Lee (Edina, Minn.) has been named the CCHA Postgame Offensive Player of the Week. He was selected for his play in the weekend split with North Dakota on Nov. 23-24. He was previously honored for his play the week of Nov. 5.

Versus North Dakota, Lee scored three goals and added an assist in the two games, getting one power-play goal and one game winner. He fired 14 shots on goal in the two games, was +1 and had a blocked shot as the Irish lost 2-1 on Nov. 23 and then took a 5-2 decision on Nov. 24.

With the split, the Irish, ranked sixth in both the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll and the USCHO.com poll, are now 9-4-0 overall and 5-1-0-0 in the CCHA, good for 15 points and go into this week’s play tied for second in the conference.

In the 2-1 loss to North Dakota, Lee scored the lone goal for Notre Dame, cutting North Dakota’s lead in half with a second-period, power-play goal. With under three minutes left in the game, it appeared that the Irish captain had tied the game when he dug a loose puck out in the crease and scored, but the goal was waved off as the officials ruled that the puck had been frozen by the UND goaltender. He had five shots and was -1 in the loss.

The following night, Lee scored twice and added an assist, was +2, blocked a shot and had a career-high nine shots in the 5-2 victory. He opened the scoring at 7:23 of the first period and then scored the eventual game winner at 13:30 of the second period, giving Notre Dame a 3-1 lead. He then set up a Jeff Costello (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) insurance goal at 18:34 of the third to seal the victory.

For the season, Lee leads Notre Dame in scoring with 13 points, including a team high eight goals to go with five assists. He has one power-play goal, a short-handed goal and one game winner and is +5 overall for the year. His 13 points tie him for fourth in the CCHA while his eight goals are second overall.

Lee and his teammates return to action this weekend, Nov. 30-Dec. 1 when Notre Dame continues a six-game home stand with a weekend series versus Lake Superior State. Friday’s game is set for 7:35 p.m. at the Compton Family Ice Arena while Saturday’s game faces off at 7:05 p.m.
