Abromaitis Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Irish junior forward Tim Abromaitis (Unionville, Conn.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 20.0 points and 4.0 rebounds and leading Notre Dame to wins over Idaho State (80-70) and UCF (90-72) to improve its record to 8-1 on the season.

Abromaitis, who earns the honor for the first time in his career, scored a career-high 31 points in making his first career start in the victory on Sunday (Dec. 6) against the Knights to record the second 30-plus point performance by an Irish player this season. Abromaitis connected on career-best 10 field goals and attempted a personal-best 17 shots. He also finished with four rebounds, two assists and two steals while playing a career-high 35 minutes.

Against Idaho State, Abromaitis netted nine points and grabbed four rebounds in playing 23 minutes off the bench.

After not playing in 2008-09 and seeing action in just 12 games during his freshman season in 2007-08, Abromaitis is Notre Dame’s second-leading scorer with a 14.7 scoring average and also is averaging 3.8 rebounds. He also is shooting 57.5 percent from the field, 48.8 percent from three-point range and 95.0 from the charity stripe.

Abromaitis also has scored in double figures in eight of nine contests.

Scottie Reynolds of Villanova took home the league’s player-of-the-week accolade, while Brandon Triche of Syracuse was named the conference’s rookie of the week.

Joining Abromaitis on the Weekly Honor Roll were: Greg Monroe (Georgetown), Gregory Echenique (Rutgers), D.J. Kennedy (St. John’s) and Herb Pope (Seton Hall).
