#8 Irish Drop Series Finale to #9 Miami, 16-7

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The eighth-ranked Notre Dame baseball team (33-13, 16-11) fell in the series finale to ninth-ranked Miami (39-16, 20-10), 16-7, Saturday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park. The Irish fell in an early hole and were unable to come back and the Canes clinched the series with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Miami jumped out to an early lead in the first. The Hurricanes hit three home runs in the inning and took a 7-0 lead after one.

The Hurricanes added two more runs in the third with a two-run home run.

The Irish got on the board in the fourth with a three-run home run from Jack Brannigan. It was his second home run of the weekend and cut the deficit to 9-3.

Miami added on in the bottom of the fourth. The Hurricanes hit two home runs and extended the lead to 11-3.

The Irish added two runs in the fifth. Spencer Myers scored on a wild pitch and Carter Putz scored on an RBI single from Brooks Coetzee III.

Miami scored five in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Jack Penney hit his second home run of the weekend in the eighth and Nick DeMarco tallied his first career home run in the ninth as the final runs of the game.

UP NEXT

The Irish are off to Charlotte for the 2022 ACC Championships. The seeding will be finalized after all of Saturday’s games are complete. Pool play begins on Tuesday, May 24 from Truist Field and the Irish will play two games between Tuesday and Friday.
