Bridget Deehan makes career-high 14 saves

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Bridget Deehan made a career-high 14 saves, but fourth-ranked Notre Dame fell to #2 Syracuse, 15-12, on Sunday afternoon inside the Carrier Dome.

Maddie Howe led the Irish with four points on three goals and an assist. Jackie Wolak had a three-point (2G, A) outing while Madison Ahern and Samantha Lynch found the back of the net twice. 

Kasey Choma, Erin McBride and Kelly Denes rounded out the scoring for Notre Dame.

Savannah Buchanan and Diana Kelly each caused a pair of Syracuse turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Seven first-half saves from Deehan and five caused turnovers by the Irish propelled Notre Dame to a 7-4 lead at the break. Four point-blank stops by Deehan and a pair of caused turnovers by Buchanan helped the Irish keep Syracuse off the board from the 13:39 to 1:48 marks of the frame during a 4-0 scoring run.

Ahern scored Notre Dame’s first two goals, and Lynch also netted a pair of first-half markers. Wolak, Howe and McBride also found the back of the net in the first 30 minutes.

Syracuse scored the first six goals of the second half to take a 10-7 lead before goals by Howe and Denes got the Irish within one at 10-9. However, the Orange answered with the next four goals to earn a 14-9 advantage.

Wolak, Choma and Howe each netted goals for Notre Dame down the stretch to account for the 15-12 final.
