Max Ellis Named B1G First Star Of The Week

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Junior forward Max Ellis has been selected as Big Ten Hockey’s First Star of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning (Nov. 23).

The Canton, Michigan native helped lead Notre Dame to a weekend sweep at top-ranked Michigan as the Irish notched back-to-back overtime wins (Nov. 19-20).

In game one, Ellis assisted Ryder Rolston’s overtime winner. Then on Saturday night, Ellis posted the first hat trick of his career, capped by scoring the overtime game-winning goal. He became the first visiting player to record a hat trick at Yost Ice Arena in 15 years (2006).

On the season, Ellis leads the Irish with 10 goals and 18 points while his eight assists are tied for the team lead. His 18 points are also a single-season, career-high total as his previous high was 16 points (5-11-16) last season in 24 games as a sophomore.

The last time a Notre Dame player earned Big Ten First Star of the Week honors was Graham Slaggert on Jan. 19, 2021, which also followed a road sweep of a top-ranked team (at Minnesota).
