Morris And Hellickson Earn B1G Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. Cale Morris was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week and Matt Hellickson earned Third Star of the Week honors the conference announced on Tuesday morning (Dec. 17). 

Morris, a senior goaltender, and Hellickson, a junior defenseman, helped the Irish close out the first semester with a win 3-0 over Penn State on Saturday night (Dec. 14). 

Morris gave up just three goals in the weekend split, finishing the series with a 1.52 goals-against average to go along with a .961 save percentage. In Saturday night’s series finale he sent the Irish to break with a win by stopping all 37 shots he faced. It marked his ninth career shutout and his second-highest save total in a shutout.

An All-American and Mike Richter Award Winner (2018), Morris has now racked up 13 weekly Big Ten honors: First Star (7), Second Star (3), Third Star (3).

Hellickson posted a pair of two-assist games in the series for his first and second multi-point games of the season. He has played in all 18 games this season, scoring a pair of goals and adding seven assists for nine points. It marked his first career weekly Big Ten honor.
