#27 Notre Dame Goes Undefeated In Friday Matches

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Irish kicked off their final homestand of the regular season with a sweep over St. Bonaventure Friday morning. The No. 27 ranked Notre Dame squad recorded six straight-set wins in singles before taking both doubles courts to complete the morning match, 7-0. The Irish came back in the afternoon to post their second victory of the day, defeating Atlantic Coast Conference foe Georgia Tech, 4-1.

Freshman Andrew Mariados highlighted the first match of the day, posting his first set and match wins while clinching the Irish victory. Tallying the fourth point of the day, Mariados won court six, 6-1, 6-3. He followed up his singles performance with a strong showing in doubles as he and partner Conor Somers won the tiebreak 7-6(5) to secure the seventh and final point of the morning.

Returning to Eck Tennis Pavilion for their afternoon match, the Irish were on fire, taking the doubles point before winning four of six sets to kick off singles play. William Howells and Matthew Gamble added to the Irish lead early, taking two points in straight sets before senior Grayson Broadus hailed heroic for the team, serving up an ace in the third set to clinch the match for Notre Dame. 

After trading a pair of 6-4 sets, he and Yellow Jackets opponent, Brandon Freestone, headed to a third and final set. Broadus swept the decisive set, 6-0, to post the victory for the Irish and improve their record to 14-13 overall.

Up Next
The Irish conclude their regular season at home with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 14. The team will host an ACC match first in Clemson at 11:30 a.m. before wrapping the season with a bout against the Omaha Mavericks.

Notre Dame will recognize its four seniors following the Clemson match as Grayson Broadus, Nate Griffin, Alex Lebedev and Daniel Rayl conclude their four years with the team.
