#27 Irish Set To Compete At ACC Championships

CARY, N.C. — The ninth-seeded Fighting Irish of Notre Dame are set to face No. 8 seed Virginia Tech in the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, Thursday morning.

No. 23 Notre Dame is coming off a four-game home stand which saw the team go 4-0, outscoring their opposition 22-1 during that stretch. After sweeping St. Bonaventure in an early morning match, the team went on to post consecutive conference wins over Georgia Tech (4-1) and Clemson (4-0) to improve their record to 5-7 and secure a first round bye.

All-time, the Irish are 8-5 against the Hokies and the two teams are tied at three under current Notre Dame head coach, Ryan Sachire.

The Irish made the trek to Blacksburg, Virginia at the end of March for a regular season dual match. Virginia Tech snuck away with the victory in that match, taking a 5-2 victory over Notre Dame.

In the loss, Axel Nefve defeated then-No. 56 Jason Kros 6-1 in the first set before coming away with a close 7-6(8) tiebreak in the second set for the first Irish point of the match. Grayson Broadus added another point to the scoreboard with his close win, dropping the first set 3-6 before storming back to 6-3 and 6-1 set wins.
