• Fourteen former Notre Dame football players worked out at the annual Notre Dame Football Pro Day today at the Guglielmino Athletics Complex and Loftus Sports Center.
• Height and weight measurements, vertical jump, broad jump and bench press were all conducted at Haggar Fitness Complex within the Guglielmino Complex.
• The 40-yard dash, pro agility (20-yard shuttle), 60-yard shuttle, three-cone drill and position-specific drills all occurred on Meyo Field at Loftus Sports Center.
• Players worked out in front of representatives from all 32 NFL teams. The total of 59 NFL personnel included three general managers, two head coaches, numerous position coaches and dozens of scouts.
• George Atkinson III, Carlo Calabrese, Dan Fox, Bennett Jackson, TJ Jones, Zack Martin, Troy Niklas, Louis Nix III, Tommy Rees, Kona Schwenke, Prince Shembo, Nick Tausch, Stephon Tuitt and Chris Watt all participated in the Pro Day. Calabrese, Fox and Schwenke were the only players to take part in all drills. Rees and Watt only skipped the bench press. Jones, Martin and Shembo only did position drills. Shembo did drills with both the defensive lineman and linebackers.
• Bennett Jackson posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.40 seconds. That time by Jackson bested his 4.51 from the NFL Combine. It would have ranked as the fifth-fastest 40-yard time by a cornerback at this year’s NFL Combine. The only cornerbacks that recorded a faster 40-yard time at the NFL Combine were Justin Gilbert (4.37, Oklahoma State), Phillip Gaines (4.38, Rice), Jason Verrett (4.38, TCU) and Bradley Roby (4.39, Ohio State).
• Jackson’s 40-yard time today was better than two of Mike Mayock’s top-five cornerbacks’ times at the combine (Darqueze Dennard, Michigan State; Kyle Fuller, Virginia Tech).
• Jackson had a 20-yard shuttle time of 4.00 seconds at the combine, which equaled the fastest time of any cornerback.
• Dan Fox, who was not selected to participate in the NFL Combine, posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.59 seconds. That time by Fox would have ranked as the third-fastest 40-yard time by a linebacker at this year’s NFL Combine. The only linebackers that recorded a faster 40-yard time at the NFL Combine were Kevin Pierre-Louis (4.51, Boston College) and Telvin Smith (4.52, Florida State).
• Not one of Mike Mayock’s top-five linebackers ran a faster time at the combine (Khalil Mack, Buffalo; C.J. Mosley, Alabama; Anthony Barr, UCLA; Chris Borland, Wisconsin; Ryan Shazier, Ohio State). Mack and Barr are widely considered top 10 picks.
• Fox’s broad jump distance of 10’1″ would have been the ninth-best by a linebacker at the NFL Combine.
• Tommy Rees’ vertical leap of 31″ would have ranked sixth among quarterbacks at the NFL Combine. He bested Tajh Boyd (30.5, Clemson), Jimmy Garoppolo (30.5, Eastern Illinois), Teddy Bridgewater (30.0, Louisville), Stephen Morris (30.0, Miami, Fla.) and Jordan Lynch (29.5, Northern Illinois).
• Rees completed 32 of his 34 passes. One of the incompletions was dropped.
• Louis Nix III improved his 40-yard dash time from 5.42 at the combine to 5.36 today. Nix III also improved his three-cone drill time from 8.29 at the combine to 7.94 today.
• Chris Watt, who was injured and only able to perform the bench press at the NFL Combine (29 repetitions), ran the 40-yard dash (5.39), 20-yard shuttle (4.76) and three-cone drill (7.60). He also did the vertical (28.5″) and broad jumps (8’8″).
• Among offensive lineman at the NFL Combine, Watt’s three-cone drill time of 7.60 would have ranked tied for 11th and his vertical leap of 28.5″ would have ranked tied for 12th.
• Kona Schwenke, who was not selected to participate in the NFL Combine, recorded a 4.88 in the 40-yard dash, 4.59 in the 20-yard shuttle, 7.16 in the three-cone drill, 29.0″ in the vertical leap, 9’0″ in the broad jump and 27 repetitions in the bench press.
• Among defensive lineman at the NFL Combine, Schwenke would have ranked fifth in the three-cone drill and tied for 14th in the bench press.
• George Atkinson III significantly improved his 20-yard shuttle time from the NFL Combine. He ran a 4.38 today, as opposed to a 4.46 at the combine.
• Carlo Calabrese, who was not selected to participate in the NFL Combine, recorded a 4.86 in the 40-yard dash, 4.60 in the 20-yard shuttle, 7.10 in the three-cone drill, 30.0″ in the vertical leap, 9’2″ in the broad jump and 25 repetitions in the bench press.
• Among linebackers at the NFL Combine, Calabrese would have ranked tied for eighth in the bench press and 11th in the three-cone drill.
