Emily Barton earned All-American honors in each of her four years as a prep. She is a four-time state and regional champion and all-city performer. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native was part of the 2005 Junior National Champion squad that set the country’s record in the 200 Free Relay.

3. If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you want to have with you?
My dog, my iPod, and my favorite blanket.
4. What television show do you never miss?
LOST
5. Do you have any pre-meet rituals/superstitions?
I always wear my goggles under my cap. Before big meets, I always eat the same breakfast.
6. When you were little, who was your favorite cartoon character?
Sailor Moon
7. If a movie was made about your life, what would the title be and who would play you?
“Living the Life” starring Jennifer Aniston
8. What’s your worst habit?
I always pile my clothes up on my chair for a really long time or eating too much dessert.
9. Where do you want to be in 10 years?
I’d like to live anywhere that is close to my family or Chicago.
10. What artist takes up most of your iPod/music player?
Chris Brown
11. When you were younger, what were you always getting in trouble for?
Reading at the dinner table. I’d even read at restaurants.
12. What song do you love to listen to but are embarrassed to admit it?
“Dirty Pop” by N*Sync
13. What is the hardest thing about being a student-athlete?
Trying to balance getting my work done and having time to hang out, do community service and get sleep.
14. Where is your favorite place at Notre Dame?
Bond Quad, by the architecture building. It’s really quiet and pretty.
15. Do you read horoscopes? If you do, do you believe in them? If not, why not?
Yes, but I only believe them if I’m supposed to have a five star day.
16. What is your favorite class or professor to date at Notre Dame, and why?
Professor Lim is the funniest professor I’ve had.
17. Which has been the biggest meet of your career?
In my senior year of high school, we swam our biggest rivals at our final dual meet. If we won, it would break their really long winning streak. It came down to the final race to see who would win the meet. I was swimming the last leg of the 4 x 100 relay and as I started my leg it was tied. That race and meet had the most exciting atmosphere.
18. Describe your perfect day- who would you spend it with, what would you do, where would you be?
I would go to Lake Saguaro in Arizona with my parents, sister and friends to go waterskiing.
19. If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Muhammad Ali, because he was so tough as an athlete, and now he does charity work, which is great.
20. What does being part of the Fighting Irish mean to you?
It’s really special to be able to compete for my school. Before I came here, swimming was more of an individual and personal thing for me. Now its more team-oriented and I like being able to do something with my teammates for the school.
