Nine different players net goals for Notre Dame

NASHVILLE — Nine different players netted goals as the second-ranked Irish improved to 7-0 (2-0 ACC) with a 16-6 road win over Vanderbilt on Wednesday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.

Kasey Choma (4G), Hannah Dorney (3G, 1A) and Madison Ahern (2G, 2A) each collected a game-high four points. 

Andie Aldave (2G), Savannah Buchanan (G, A), Jessi Masinko (G, A) and Maddie Howe (G, A) all added two-point efforts. Makenna Pearsall and Samantha Lynch also scored for the Irish.

The Irish earned a 17-7 advantage in draw controls, led by six from Buchanan and five each from Aldave and Choma.

Kathleen Roe caused a game-high three turnovers while Pearsall caused a pair.

Bridget Deehan finished with five saves to earn her seventh victory in goal for the Irish. Grace Steffens stopped one shot in relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Irish took control from the opening draw, scoring the game’s first 11 goals in the opening 17:28 of play.

Nine different players netted goals in Notre Dame’s 11-goal run, including Choma (2), Aldave (2) Pearsall, Howe, Ahern, Buchanan, Masinko, Dorney and Lynch.

Deehan made four saves to keep the hosts off the board until Vanderbilt finally broke through with less than six minutes to go in the half.

The Commodores struck once more before Dorney scored her second in the final minute to give the Irish a 12-2 lead at the break.

Ahern (2), Dorney and Ahern scored for Notre Dame in the second half as the Irish maintained control to earn the 16-6 victory.
