#1/2 Irish Set To Fence At Duke Home Meet This Weekend

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame fencing team will look to continue its winning ways this weekend when it competes at the Duke Fencing Home Meet inside Card Gym in Durham, N.C.

The Irish women’s team, ranked No. 1 in the country in the latest CollegeFencing360.com Coaches Poll, enters the competition with a 17-1 dual record this season. Notre Dame’s lone defeat came at the hands of then No. 3 Columbia at the NYU Invitational Jan. 27 (13-14).

Sophomore epeeist Ashley Severson was selected as a primetime performer by CF360 after posting a 22-2 mark at the Northwestern Duals Feb. 2, which included wins over defending NCAA champion Karazyna Dabrowa and All-Americans Carolina Piasecka and Tahsa Domashovetz of No. 4 Ohio State.

Notre Dame enjoyed a successful outing on the men’s side at the Northwestern Duals as well, as the No. 2 Irish (11-5) closed the weekend with a 5-1 team mark. Senior captain Gerek Meinhardt made his season debut in men’s foil, making an immediate impact with a 17-1 weekend. The Notre Dame foilists led all Irish weapon squads with a 40-14 bout record at Northwestern.
