NOTRE DAME, Indiana — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Tuesday that freshman Yared Nuguse has been named the Men’s Track Performer of the Week following a record-setting performance on Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational.
Nuguse ran with Jacob Dumford, Elijah Silva and Edward Cheatham in the distance medley relay against some of the toughest teams in the country. Many of the top times in the nation for the DMR come out of the Alex Wilson Invitational and it was no different this year.
The relay team broke the school record in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:28.79, including a sub four-minute mile split (3:57.39) from Nuguse. Heading into the ACC Championships this weekend, their time ranks second in the conference and sixth nationally. Five of the top six times in the country came from the Alex Wilson Invitational.
Nuguse and the rest of the Irish track and field team will be heading down to Clemson, S.C. for the 2018 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Nuguse and the rest of the relay team will be up first for the Irish, as they eye a conference title Thursday night in men’s distance medley relay final. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Nuguse will also compete in the men’s mile prelims on Friday and the 3000m run on Saturday.
