NOTRE DAME, Ind. – In addition to battling No. 16 Virginia on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Arlotta Stadium, the No. 8 Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team will also be doing its part in the fight against cancer in its fourth annual “Lax For The Cure” day. All proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen of Northern Indiana.

The Fighting Irish will wear special pink jerseys during warmups, all of which will be auctioned off after the game . Another highlight of the team’s fundraising efforts, head coach Christine Halfpenny will donate $10 for every Irish goal scored on Saturday and fans are invited to take up the coach’s challenge to match that sum. More information on Halfpenny’s challenge is available here at UND.com.

Pink “Lax 4 The Cure” t-shirts will be on sale at Arlotta Stadium on Saturday as well for $10.

Fans wearing pink will receive free admission to the game. All fans will be given free pink pom-poms at the gate. Fans can also make donations on site Saturday at the Arlotta Stadium ticket office. For more information, call 574-631-7356.

It is actually the second straight weekend where the women’s lacrosse team has done work to fight cancer. Last Friday night, March 28, the team participated in the Relay For Life event at Notre Dame’s Compton Family Ice Arena. Senior captain Molly Shawhan, the community service liaison for ND’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, helped organize the inclusion of student-athletes from Notre Dame’s 26 varsity sports in that event.

The team is also active in the Fighting Irish Fight For Live program which was featured last week in tear-jerking fashion here at UND.com.
