SOUTH BEND, Ind. — University of Notre Dame women’s lacrosse head coach Christine Halfpenny announced the 2023 slate on Monday (Dec. 12). The Irish head into the 2023 season ready to face five NCAA Tournament contenders, including defending National Champions, North Carolina, through their 15-game slate.
The Irish will face seven opponents who made the NCAA Championship field last season, including defending National Champions in North Carolina. Notre Dame will also face Clemson for the first time as the Tigers make take to the field for their inaugural season.
“We can’t wait to begin the 2023 season that features nine games at home and seven away. We’re excited about the great balance we’ll get by playing within the ACC and then also playing non-conference teams from six other conferences coast-to-coast,” said head coach Christine Halfpenny.
Notre Dame returns a pair of IWLCA All-American honorees in Kasey Choma and Madison Ahern, along with IWLCA All-Region honoree in Kelly Denes. Three Irish returned with All-ACC honors including First-Team honoree Choma and Second-Team honoree Madison Ahern. Grace Weigand returns after being named to the ACC All-Freshman team.
The Irish welcome a nine member freshman class including three attackers, three midfielders, two defenders and a goalie, from eight different states. In the class, the Irish have brought in five Under Armour All-Americans in Fran Frieri, Emma Murphy, Anna Kenney, Jaclyn Marszal, and Franny O’Brien. They are joined by teammates Abby Lyons who was a member of the U18 USA National Lacrosse team, Ellie Noto and Maeve Dwyer who were named USA Lacrosse All-Americans, and Avery Gawronski who was the Rookie of the Year by NJ.com.
