NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team will tour the Midwest and head to the East coast for a weekend full of lacrosse action as part of the the 2013 fall schedule released Tuesday by third year head coach Christine Halfpenny.

Coming off a 2013 season that saw the Irish go 12-5, qualify for the NCAA Championship and produce a first team All-American in defender Barbara Sullivan, Notre Dame will see familiar foes during the fall campaign in 2013 opponents Ohio State, Northwestern and Marquette.

“I am excited for our team to have the opportunity once again to get great outside competition this fall in scrimmage settings,” said Halfpenny. “Our goals of fall ball are to work on the fundamentals and basics of our game, introduce the freshmen to the systems that we run and to begin building the chemistry and synergy that our team will play with this spring.

“We are fortunate to have this fall set up to culminate the final 4 weeks of practice with competition other than ourselves. It’s almost a reward of sorts for the players after working hard throughout the week. No doubt it’s also a great barometer for where we are as a program. Playing some of the strongest competition in the country this early certainly gets us fired up for the spring season and motivates our team to work hard in the offseason.”

The Irish open the fall slate Sunday, Sept. 29 in Indianapolis, Ind., as they battle the Buckeyes and Wildcats at Park Tudor High School. Similar to last year, each game will feature two 35-minute periods with a 10-minute halftime. Notre Dame plays Northwestern at 1:20 p.m. and Ohio State at 3 p.m. Park Tudor HS is located at 7200 N. College Avenue in Indianapolis.

In the spring, Notre Dame took down Ohio State, 13-8, before falling to Northwestern, 10-8 in a close match at Arlotta Stadium.

Less than a week later the Irish travel to Evanston, Ill., to meet Northwestern at Lakeside Field Friday Oct. 4.

The following weekend the Irish travel to the East coast for a tournament at Navy (Saturday, Oct. 12) and a meeting with Delaware (Sunday, Oct. 13).

Notre Dame closes out the fall slate Thursday, Oct. 17 at Arlotta Stadium as Marquette comes to town. The Golden Eagles, who played their first season of collegiate lacrosse in 2012, lost to the Irish, 14-5, at Arlotta on senior day. Marquette is under the direction of second year head coach and former Irish All-American Meredith (Simon) Black.

Times for each playing date will be announced as they become available primarily through the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse Facebook (/NDWLAX) and Twitter (@NDWomensLax) pages.
