LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Fighting Irish women’s golf team is in fourth place after two rounds of play at the 2018 Bettie Lou Evan Invitational as Notre Dame shot a second round 293 (291-293=584/+8) at the University Club of Kentucky’s Big Blue Course (par 72, 5,947 yards).
Senior Emma Albrecht led the Irish for the second consecutive day, turning in a one-under par 71 in Saturday’s second round. Albrecht, last year’s co-medalist at the event, opened with a bogey but then rallied with three birdies on the front nine. On the back, she added eight pars and a bogey and sits in fifth place with one round remaining.
Kentucky (566) leads the field, followed by Penn State (582) and Middle Tennessee State (583), meaning the Irish will enter Sunday’s final round just two strokes back of second. Kentucky’s Leonie Bettel (137/-7) holds the 36-hole lead, followed by Toledo’s Pimchanok Kawil (138/-6).
Senior Isabella DiLisio (73), freshman Claire Albrecht (74) and sophomore Abby Heck (75) also scored for the Irish in the second round. Through two rounds, Heck has 27 pars which ranks as the second highest total in the field.
Senior Maddie Rose Hamilton shot a second round 76, while junior Mia Ayer, playing as an individual, added a 79.
The Irish will be paired with Toledo and Western Kentucky on holes 5-7 for Sunday’s shotgun start, which is slated for 9:00 a.m. Last season Notre Dame won the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational by four strokes.
