Young Named espnW Player of the Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – espnW named University of Notre Dame junior guard Jackie Young as its Player of the Week on Monday. ESPN staffers Charlie Creme, Graham Hays and Mechelle Voepel voted for Young after the Princeton, Indiana, native guided the Irish to a Vancouver Showcase championship.

Young averaged 20.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.7 assists in the wins over Gonzaga, Drake and No. 9 Oregon State. Young posted back-to-back games with 20-plus points in the final two games, securing 25 against Drake, before leading the team with 23 points, nine rebounds and seven assists against the Beavers. Young was named to the All-Vancouver Showcase Tournament Team for her play. 

Young now averages the third most points on the team with 18.3 per game, up from last season’s average of 14.5 per game. Young also leads the team in assists with 31 and ranks third on the team in rebounds, averaging 7.2 per game. 

Young and the rest of the Irish return to the court on Thursday, Nov. 29, when they welcome No. 14 Iowa to Purcell Pavilion for a 7 pm ET tip on ESPN2.
