Ogunbowale & Shepard Make Wooden Award National Ballot

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 9, 2019) – The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced its 2019 Women’s National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy’s on Saturday as Notre Dame’s Arike Ogunbowale and Jessica Shepard were among the 15 student-athletes selected. The Irish duo are now candidates for the Wooden Award All American Team and Wooden Award Trophy as the most outstanding college basketball player in the country.
 
Ogunbowale has now made the Wooden Award National Ballot for the second straight year while Jessica Shepard makes the list for the first time of her career. In addition, Notre Dame and UConn (Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson) are the only two schools with multiple selections.
 
Voting will take place from March 19th to March 26th, and voters take into consideration a player’s entire season of play, as well as the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Wooden Award All American Team, consisting of the nation’s top five players and the finalists for the Wooden Award will be announced following the “Elite Eight” round of the NCAA Tournament and will be the focus of a 30-minute show on April 3rd on ESPNU at 6:30pm ET.
 
The 43rd annual presentation of the John R. Wooden Award to the men’s and women’s most outstanding college basketball player will be the anchor presentation of the ESPN College Basketball Awards Presented by Wendy’s on ESPN2 on Friday, April 12, 2019.
