NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the first time this seaosn, the Notre Dame women’s volleyball team won its third-straight match by defeating Villanova 15-13, 15-5 and 15-9 to move to 12-11 overall, 8-1 in the BIG EAST.

Sophomore Christi Girton (Muncie, Ind.) led the Irish attack for the fifth-consecutive game, tallying 14 kills on .270 hitting. Teammates Marcie Bomhack (Waukesha, Wis.) and Emily Schiebout (Blaine, Minn.) also added 12 and 10 kills respectively. Notre Dame senior Lindsay Treadwell (Austin, Texas) led the team in digs with 15 and junior Mary Leffers (Tampa, Fla.) added six blocks.

For the Wildcats (11-15 overall, 2-6 in the BIG EAST), three players ended with double-digit kill totals including Breen Eddinger (15), Megan O’Brien (14) and Elizabeth Jones (14). Villanova, however, was unable to get its offense going during the three-game match, and ended up with a .122 hitting percentage.

The Irish head to Pittsburgh and West Virginia next weekend for their last regular season BIG EAST matches. Currently, Notre Dame is tied with Georgetown and Connecticut for first place in the conference.
