MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In the final day of regular season BIG EAST conference play, the Notre Dame women’s volleyball team lost 15-3, 15-5, 15-7 to West Virginia. Depending on the outcome of the rest of today’s matches, the Irish will probably end the regular season in third place and advance to the BIG EAST Tournament next weekend as the third seed.

Notre Dame (13-12 overall, 9-2 in the BIG EAST) was unable to get any offense going against the Mountaineers, ending the match with a .035 hitting percentage. Freshman Marcie Bomhack (Waukesha, Wis.) led the Irish attack with seven kills, while West Virginia’s Nikki Hardy and Megan Porter both added 10 kills in the upset. The Mountaineers hit .333 against the Irish and outdug them 41-25.

Notre Dame will be in action at home Wednesday, November 18 in a non-conference match against Toledo, before heading to Pittsburgh, Pa. for the BIG EAST Tournament, November 21-22. The match against Toledo will be the last scheduled home game for Notre Dame seniors Lindsay Treadwell (Austin, Texas) and Audra Duda (Woodland Hills, Calif.).
