NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s volleyball got back in the win column with a 14-16, 15-5, 15-9, 17-15 win over Providence before more than 600 people at the Joyce Center Arena. The win moved the Irish to 8-10 overall, 4-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Friars dropped to 11-12 overall, 1-5 in the BIG EAST.

Notre Dame was led by freshman Marcie Bomhack (Waukesha, Wis.), who had a career-high 22 kills on 46 attempts with only two errors. Bomhack also had a career-best night for hitting percentage (.435) and attack attempts (46). Irish sophomore Christi Girton (Muncie Ind.) added 16 kills on .368 hitting, while freshman Kristy Kreher (Birmingham, Mich.) had a career -high 14 kills and 15 digs. Senior captain Lindsay Treadwell (Austin, Texas) added 10 block assists on the defensive side for the Irish and Denise Boylan (Lisle, Ill.) had 53 assists.

Annie Cella led the Friars with 27 kills on 69 attempts, while Sarah Katinger added 18 kills. Notre Dame, however, outblocked the Friars 15-3, and hit .303 to Providence’s .150 hitting percentage.

Notre Dame continues its six-match home stand with another BIG EAST match versus Boston College at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 25 at the Joyce Center.
