NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Notre Dame juniors Berica Day and Michelle Hamilton claimed the C doubles flight on the final day of action at the Eck Classic on Sunday at the Courtney Tennis Center. Junior Nina Vaughan and freshman Alicia Salas finished second in the A doubles flight, while Vaughan also placed third in the Flight A singles.

Day and Hamilton edged Illinois State’s Shelby Lipson and Brigette Zarazee 9-7 to win the doubles flight. Day also won a close singles match in the Flight D consolation, beating Illinois State’s Alana Hoffman 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3). Vaughan defeated freshman teammate Caylan Leslie 6-2, 6-3 to place third while Leslie finished fourth in the top singles flight. Junior Lindsey Green blanked Purdue’s Erika Quebe 6-0, 6-0 in Flight A consolation action.

Senior Kimberly Guy finished fifth in the B singles by defeating Purdue’s Melissa Iqbal 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Katie Cunha won 6-3, 6-2 over Western Michigan’s Meaghan Colville in another B consolation match. Irish freshman Emily Neighbours and Alicia Salas posted consolation wins over Purdue in the Flight C singles. Neighbours beat Lynsey Fick 6-0, 6-3, while Salas won 6-2, 6-0 over Lisa Walgenbach.

Colville and Larissa Chinwah beat Vaughan and Salas 8-6 to claim the top doubles flight. Guy and Cunha defeated Fick and Gretchen Haynor 8-1, and Green and Leslie won 8-4 over Quebe and Walgenbach in consolation doubles matches. Neighbours and senior Sarah Scaringe won 8-5 over Iowa’s Jennifer Hodgman and Erica Johnson to take fifth place in the Flight B doubles.
