ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Notre Dame junior women’s tennis player Kelly Zalinski advanced to the semifinals of the Flight No. 1 singles on Friday at the Wolverine Invitational at the University of Michigan. Zalinski beat Michigan’s Erryn Weggenman 6-4, 6-1 in the first round and Texas A&Ms Leah Killen 6-1, 6-2 in the second round. She will face Michigan’s 49th-ranked Brooke Hart in Saturday’s semifinals.

Hart advanced to the semifinals with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Irish freshman Lindsey Green, who beat Texas A&Ms San Miguel 7-6, 1-6, 7-6 in the first round. Irish freshman Nina Vaughan and Becky Varnum both lost first-round matches in Flight No. 1. Vaughan lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to North Carolina’s Jessica Zaganczyk, while Varnum lost 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 to Texas A&M’s Martina Nedorostova. Vaughan beat Michigan’s Jennifer Boylan 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the consolation, while Varnum had a bye.

In Flight No. 2, junior Sarah Scaringe and sophomore Kimberly Kim both advanced to the semifinals. Scaringe beat North Carolina’s Jen Burnette 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 in the first round and Michigan’s Maya Farah 6-1, 6-1 in the second round to set up a semifinal match against Texas A&Ms Kelli DelaTorre. Guy defeated Texas A&M’s Stacy Lee 6-1, 6-0 and North Carolina’s Cena Hackler 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and will face Texas A&Ms Danielle Scott in the semifinal. Scott beat Irish freshman Berica Day 6-1, 6-0 in the first round.

In the only doubles flight, Green and Guy advanced to the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Scott and Lee. Nedorostova and Dingwall beat Varnum and Zalinski 6-3, 6-1, while Killen and Miguel downed Scaringe and Varnum 6-3, 6-1.
