MADISON, Wis. — The 11th-ranked Notre Dame women’s tennis team lost to second-ranked and defending NCAA champion Georgia 5-1 on Friday in the quarterfinals of the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women’s National Team Indoor Championships in a match completed late Friday night. The Irish fall to 6-2 with the loss and conclude play at the event with a consolation match on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs won the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. Notre Dame senior Kimberly Guy and sophomore Katie Cunha won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Georgia’s singles lineup, featuring four players ranked among the top 100 in the country, won four of the middle singles matches for the 5-1 win. Junior Lindsey Green won the only singles match for the Irish with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Georgia’s Christa Grey at No. 6 singles.
