NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team, under head coach Jay Louderback, has been named the No. 2 seed for the 1998 NCAA Midwest Regional Championship, which will be held on the campus of the University of Illinois from May 15-17. The winner of the eight-team event advances to the 16-team NCAA Championship, which begins at Notre Dame on May 21.

Notre Dame will play No. 7 seed Northwestern in the first round of the event at 2:00 p.m. CDT on Friday, May 15. The Irish finished the season with a record of 18-9 while the Wildcats are 13-10. Other first round matchups are: No. 1 seed UCLA (14-10) vs. No. 5 seed Marquette (16-7), No. 4 seed Indiana (16-10) vs. No. 8 seed Purdue (14-8) and No. 3 seed Wisconsin (16-10) vs. No. 6 seed Michigan (11-12).

The semifinals will be held on Saturday, May 16, with the championship match on Sunday, May 17.
