Women's Tennis Doubles Team Open ITA Midwest Regionals Main Draw 6-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. – All three Notre Dame doubles teams moved into the round of 16 with victories in the main draw of the 2006 ITA Midwest Championships on Friday. The Irish was the only school among the field that advanced three teams.

The No. 1 seeded duo of junior Brook Buck and sophomore Kelcy Tefft went 2-0 on Friday. They opened their action with an 8-4 victory over Dunja Antunovic and Petra Rehusova of DePaul. Buck and Tefft then cruised past Pascale Schnitzer and Marienne Eelens of Michigan State, 8-1. They improved to 5-2 on the season and will face Tijana Koprivica and Ashley Schellhas of Minnesota on Saturday.

Sophomore Katie Potts and freshman Colleen Rielley also went 2-0 on their first day. They cruised past Yana Parfenyok and Vanessa Frankowski of Eastern Michigan, 8-3. Potts and Rielley then outlasted Lauren Lui and Nazlie Ghaza of Northwestern, 9-7. Potts and Rielley upped their record to 5-0 on the season. They will play Christine Bader and Stephanie Kebler of Michigan State on Saturday.

The final Irish doubles team in action was freshman Cosmina Ciobanu and freshman Kali Krisik. They moved into the round of 16 with an 8-5 victory over Leigh Finnegan and Megan Fudge of Illinois and an 8-3 victory over Lauren Little and Kylie Moore of Marquette. Ciobanu and Krisik improved to 5-0 on the season.

Saturday will see the commencement of the 64-players singles main draw. Senior Catrina Thompson, senior Christian Thompson, Krisik, Ciobanu, Tefft, Buck, Potts and Rielley will all open action. Catrina Thompson and Buck are the highest seeded Notre Dame players. Catrina Thompson is seeded No. 1 and Buck is No. 4.
