NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame womens tennis team wrapped the annual Eck Classic on Sunday at the Courtney Tennis Center. Irish freshman Becky Varnum dropped the championship match of the Blue Flight, falling to Marquettes Elisa Penalvo, ranked 26th in the country, in a tight 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 match. Freshman Lindsey Green finished fifth in the Blue Flight with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win over Illinois Stacy Schapiro.

In the Blue Flight consolations, junior Kelly Zalinksi dropped her final match 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to Drakes Cecily Dubusker, while junior Sarah Scaringe won 6-3, 6-0 over Illinois-Chicagos Jacki Farr. Freshman Nina Vaughan and sophomore Kim Guy also dropped Blue Flight consolation matches, while freshman Berica Day lost in the Gold consolations.

In the Blue Flight doubles, Green and Scaringe teamed up to win flight with an 8-2 win over teammates Varnum and Zalinski. Guy and Vaughan finished fifth in the Blue Flight doubles after beating Illinois-Chicagos Emina Curic and Sara Jackson.
