The University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team, fresh off winning its sixth-straight BIG EAST Championship last weekend, will not compete in the Shamrock Invitational at home this weekend. The women’s portion of the Shamrock Invitational, set for Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, in the Rolfs Aquatic Center, has been cancelled.

Irish head coach Bailey Weathers, the 2002 BIG EAST Coach of the Year, will send competitors to two different ‘last chance’ meets this weekend. Notre Dame swimmers and divers will enter the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., on Sunday, March 3, (competition starts at 1 p.m.) and the Indiana University Open in Bloomington, Ind., scheduled for the same date and time as the Gopher Invitational.

The Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team is poised to send a record number of swimmers and divers to the NCAA Championship (March 21-23, in Austin, Texas), as 13 Irish swimmers and divers have achieved consideration times for the meet. The ‘last chance’ meets this weekend will allow the competitors to improve their times for the NCAA meet, or come through with a new qualification time.
